Nalda Murilova who danced with Anna Pavlova and who studied the Russian style of dance first established the Murilova Ballet School in the 1940s. Together with Grace Greenway, soloist with the Sadlers Wells Ballet, they built the school. Since then the school has been passed down to former pupils with Sandra McAuliffe as Principal for 30 years until she retired in 2015. Keeping up the tradition, Sandra passed the school to Tina Marsh who had begun her training as a pupil of the same school 30 years ago, before embarking on a professional dancing career. The Murilova Ballet School, now based at St Michael’s Middle School Wimborne, offers ballet and contemporary classes for all ages and abilities.

The Russian Style:
The NATD Classic Ballet branch provides a syllabus following the Russian style of ballet training. The main difference between this and other styles of ballet is the equal emphasis on the upper and lower body, which allows dancers to use their whole body expressively and beautifully.
Optional examinations start at Class level (from 4 years of age) followed by Primary and Grade One to Six. In addition to the teaching and development of basic ballet technique the syllabus aims to encourage an appreciation of music, mime and national dance and Murilova is very proud to have a 100% pass rate.
Vocational grades, Intermediate Foundation to Advanced Two, are available to further develop technical and performance skills. There is also a series of medal tests catering for all age groups.
Dancers receive expert tuition and have exam and performance opportunities whilst furthering their passion for ballet and the theatre, in a friendly, family environment. Teachers are fully insured and hold Enhanced DBS certificates. Classes run Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings please call Tina on 07903 753167 or email her tina.marsh@hotmail.co.uk for an informal chat.

Our Students.
Murilova Ballet School is a warm, friendly environment that encourages each student as an individual no matter their age, skill or whether they intend to pursue dance as a career or as a loved hobby. We are a small school and the students are always at the centre of our decision making, ensuring that each person is valued and that their unique personality is nurtured to promote their well being in order that they may discover a confidence that can be found in the performing arts.
